Vasilios Makris - Villain

Vasilios Makris is another villain of the Vancouver riot.  Makris is a Greek man who wore a very conspicuous blue Adidas soccer jersey during the was visible in numerous riot videos.  Makris was one of the rioters who attacked hero Bert Easterbrook.  He also allegedly shoved a random woman to the ground while attempting to evade police during the riot.

*** Update - October 7, 2013 ***

Vasilios Makris was recently sentenced to 8 months in prison for his role in the 2011 Vancouver Riot. Makris' lawyer actually had the gall to ask for leniency because Makris was extremely drunk during the riot! However, the judge did not buy Makris' excuse and reportedly wrote the following in his ruling:
“Makris was fully involved in the very considerable violence that was occurring and he was not in any way doing anything to stop it ...  His involvement simply further contributed to the mayhem and chaos that was occurring. ... He was there at the start of the riot and remained for the whole four hour period until the very end. ... He was confrontational with the police and other peace makers throughout and he was physically aggressive when confronted himself. His acts encouraged others to commit criminal offences and regularly went beyond encouragement to participate himself in acts of arson, assault, and break and entry.  But what really sets Makris’ case apart from most others was his commitment, at times almost a frantic commitment, to the mayhem. He consistently attempted to frustrate the police and others who were trying to stop the riot.”

  3. The great news is that Vasilios made the effort to come and apologize in person and make things right with me. This is a great example of what alcohol can do during a crappy period in your life and I wholeheartedly believe that actions like this are not in his regular nature.

He is a good guy and he and I have set things straight. It took a lot of balls for him to make such a big effort and I hope there is leniancy for him.

    Bert Easterbrook.

  8. I've known this guy for years and while I do agree it took a good deal of courage to step up and try to make amends, I can tell you he's not a good guy who's had a hard time in life. He's a lazy, 'the man" hating loser who deserves what he gets. Enjoy your entitled next few months!

  9. I witnessed more sober teenage girls steal merchandise from sears as I watched and helped protect my friends store the night of the riots. . I don't think Jail is really the answer on this one. They are making an example of this man. I'd rather pay tax dollars to see community work from this individual. I hope he is being fed well and having a wonderful time out from this dark racist passive aggressive city. The police wanted this to happen. There was no police presence downtown at all. Win or loose this was going to happen and will happen again. And has already happened!!! Way to learn from the past Vancouver. More police kill innocent people in this city too. Fuck you hockey fans. Have another drink. Continue to teach your children bad values, continue to have lack of compassion for people. And now the police are going after Bert Eastern rook for not filling out a 2011 census, the guy who is a true hero. www.cbc.ca/m/touch/canada/british-columbia/story/1.1311132
